For as long as I can remember, there was always Brahms. At the first concert I attended, his Sextet N'1 moved me so deeply that it decided my destiny: I would become a cellist. I was four at the time, and even today I have the feeling that, with Brahms, the cello is somehow idealised. After Bach, Vivaldi, Beethoven and Schumann, he made the voice of the cello his own. Or rather, we should say the cello’s voices.
