With his prolific inspiration, Robert Schumann, the archetypical romantic composer, touched upon all the musical genres of his time. His very personal and original approach to form (as witnessed by his sonatas and fantasies) had a major impact on the evolution of the romantic musical idiom. The chamber music repertoire gives him a diversity of materials to explore and expand the construction of his works. Eric Lesage here continues his series of the complete piano and chamber music works by Schumann. As in the best 19th century salon concerts, Eric Lesage brings together some of the best current chamber musicians on these two CDs. In the first disc of this "imaginary concert", we find Franois Leleux (oboe), Bruno Schneider (horn), Paul Meyer (clarinet), Antoine Tamestit (alto) and Jean Guihen Queyras. The second record is devoted to the three violin sonatas (op. 121), recorded in the mythical hall of the Chaux-de-Fonds (the shrine which saw the birth of the two first volumes of the complete works) with Gordan Nikolic (violin). In this new opus, Eric Le Sage once again proves himself to be one of the most brilliant interpreters of the composer.
