The æon label is currently working on two complementary series: the one, strictly contemporary, is devoted to monographic CDs of composers of the 20th and 21st centuries; while the other, which is open to a wider repertoire, is based on the unusual qualities of the selected artists who are totally involved with æon. Every CD is conceived as the ultimate aim of a singular quest.

Records that are as beautiful to look at as to listen to; that’s how the creation of Alpha was greeted by the press in 1999. While the general tendency is towards trivialisation and standardisation of recorded music, Alpha loves to shape each production into a unique object reflecting the century-old links between various forms of artistic expression. Love indeed also assumes understanding.

Several years ago, Jerome Lejeune started a label that was one of the pillars of the rediscovery of ancient and baroque music. Ricercar is also an astonishing personality, that of Jérôme Lejeune who has been master aboard for the past thirty years, shouldering all the productions as much on a scientific and artistic level as technical.

This opera was recorded during the memorable performance given at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels under Patrick Davin's baton, in the spring of 2009. Kris Defoort's new opera is the first in a series devoted to this extraordinary composer with Fuga Libera. He was first trained in baroque music at the Ghent Conservatory (under Barthold Kuijken, Jos Van Immerseel...), then in jazz and composition at the Liège Conservatory (with Rzewski, List, Boesmans...), and finally he immersed himself in the New York Jazz scene. Since his return to Belgium in 1991, he animates the Belgian jazz world with his strong personality. His unique talent was discovered by the "classical" world through his work in musical theatre and revealed in 2001 by the opera The Woman Who Walked into Doors - an order from the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie - which soon spread across Europe. A dream world, a contemporary "verist" language, in the noblest meaning of the word and music that is "rich, ambiguous, meaty and free" (in the words of Philippe Boesmans).
