Corelli Variations & Transcriptions for piano solo (J.S. Bach, Bizet, Kreisler, Mendelssohn, Moussorgski, Rachmaninov, Rimski-Korsakov, Schubert, Tchaïkovsky)  Total time : 59'48 Ekaterina Mechetina, who will henceforth be featured in Fuga Libera productions, is one of the most outstanding representatives of the young Russian generation. She was trained at the Moscow Conservatory by Vladimir Ovchinnikov and Sergei Dorensky, became a laureate of the Rostropovich Foundation and won several international competitions, among which Cincinnati in 2004. Ekaterina is a remarkable, multi-faceted personality - she recently created Rodion Chedrin's 6th Concerto at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw - who now tours the world. We're pleased to host her in our label with a very colourful programme. Next to Rachmaninov's interesting variations on the theme of La Follia, which he erroneously believed to be Corelli's, it's really the flamboyant protagonist of transcriptions which is highlighted in this recording. Most of these pieces were performed in public during Rachmaninov's American exile. The pianist here happily displays pure musicality, an ironclad technique and the languid Russian charm that befits this repertoire like snow goes with Pushkin: a moment of pure piano pleasure!
