Founder and chairman of the Belgian section of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) by which he was elected as an honorary member last year, member of the Belgian Royal Academy, former artistic director of the Flemish Radio Orchestra, successful teacher for composition, André Laporte is also a distinguished humanist, speaking many languages, and above all an authentic composer whose works have enchanted the public worldwide. We may believe Herman Sabbe when he asserts in his introductory notes that these works will endure. Besides the great opera "Das Schloss", a stunning creation of the Mortier-era at La Monnaie, one will find many, often unpublished works; among them "La Vita non Sogno", composed on a powerful poem by Salvatore Quasimodo, the 1959 Nobel Prize, that gave Laporte the prestigious Prix Italia in Bologna (1976), winning from a noria of legendary European composers who were competing that year.
