Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) has had a wonderful carrier. He first travelled around the world playing the flute then was propelled during the interwar period as conductor of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire de Paris, one of the best orchestras of the time. For a long time, the composer, who did not survive the Second World War, was neglected and it is only today that we rediscover, with great pleasure, first-rate chamber and symphonic scores. The various similarities in these parts with Debussy, Ravel, Ibert or, even more, Joseph Jongen are quite striking and it will certainly please the amateurs of elegance, refinement and lyricism. The chamber music for flute, cello and piano is one of the most beautiful lines of Gaubert's work and here it is, with parts never recorded, played by the Trio Wiek, the best ambassadors that could be, in a brilliant coproduction with the WDR/Radio of Koln.
