Let us ponder Laurent Quénelle's (European Camerata) words: "Mendelssohn's youth Symphonies show a remarkable freshness and spontaneity. While their aspect is simple, they are, in fact, very subtle, in particular by their richness and articulations. This disc is the result of research and reflexions guided by Sir John Elliot Gardiner, who I would like to warmly thank, together with Peter Hanson, for his erudite input. The reading of Clive Brown's fabulous book (Classical and Romantic performing practice) was extremely important for our project." We should add that the first CD of European Camerata with Fuga Libera, devoted to Britten, received numerous awards, that the notes from Brigitte François-Sappey are particularly interesting, so that the Mendelssohn year ends beautifully, well served by a unique chamber orchestra!
