In 1604, tien jaar na de dood van Roland van Lassus, publiceren zijn zonen een uitgebreide anthologie van zijn werk onder de titel Magnum Opus Musicum, een encyclopedisch werk van meer dan zevenhonderd motetten in 3 tot 12 stemmen. Naast liturgische teksten die overheersend in de bundel aanwezig zijn, vinden we ook profane, moraliserende en historische teksten waarvan sommigen de gebeurtenissen van het leven van de componist, in dienst van de Kapel van de aartshertog van München, verduidelijken. Jean Tubéry selecteerde hier enkele motetten in 3 tot 6 stemmen waaronder een aantal onuitgegeven op CD , die de verwonderlijke creativiteit van de componist illustreren en ons zijn humor doen ontdekken.
