After years of research and musical maturation, Alpha presents: Combattimenti!
Vincent Dumestre performs La Fiera di Farfa, world premiere on disc, accompanied by pure gems of Monteverdi’s profane vocal music.
Marazzoli’s La Fiera contains the parody of the famous Combatimento di Tancredi e Clorinda (composed a year earlier), justifying its presence on this disc. We have therefore chosen to present both works, together with some extra pieces as a counterpart to La Fiera (including Hor ch’el ciel, an emblem of early baroque music which will strongly influence later writing).
Composed by Marco Marazzoli in 1639, La Fiera di Farfa is an operatic interlude, true drama set to music, as this was practiced in 17th century Italian fairs. This piece was so well known that it was adapted for the stage by Bernini, played throughout the 18th century, and still commented during the 19th century.
Vincent Dumestre invites us to discover and rediscover masterpieces of the Italian Baroque.
After his success on tour, here comes the CD!
